Random Acts of Kindness Week ~ February 12th ~ 15th ~ but shouldn't everyday be "kindness day"? Especially on
Eating Disorder Awareness ~ February 24th ~ March 1st – in the United States and February 25th ~ March 2nd in The United Kingdom.
Alzheimer Awareness Week February 14th ~ 21st.
International Friendship Week ~ February 17th ~ 24th
Bullying Awareness: Cyber Bullying ~ States have anti-bullying laws and some hold expos to create additional awareness. I came across varying dates of activities. Additional awareness will be in November of 2011.
American Heart Awareness Month
AMD Awareness ~ Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is a chronic condition that causes central vision loss. It affects millions of people and is the leading cause of blindness in people 60-years of age and older.


Black History Month ~ see a tribute to Black Voices in History. Commemorated by many news stories and specials throughout the month.
Also, February is American Heart Month, Bake for Family Fun Month, Bird Feeding Month, Care About Your Indoor-Air Month, Dental Health Month for Children, Grapefruit Month, Humpback-Whale Awareness Month, Creative-Romance Month, National Laugh-Friendly Month, Library-Lovers Month, Mend a Broken-Heart Month, Pet Dental-Health Month, Pull 'Your Sofa Off the Wall' Month, Spooky Old-Broads Month , Youth-Leadership Month, Women's Heart Month, and in Illinois, it's (I swear I am not making any of these up) 'Return Shopping Carts to the Supermarket' Month.



February 1, 2011:
National Freedom Day in the United States ~ National Freedom Day commemorates the signing of the 13th Amendment that outlawed slavery. Signed into law on February 1, 1865 by the 16th President, Abraham Lincoln, he said at the time, "As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master. This expresses my idea of democracy."  The idea to celebrate the holiday came from Major Richard Robert Wright Sr., who was a former slave.
February 2, 2011:
Groundhog Day ~ If the Groundhog 'sees his shadow' when he comes out of his den, he runs back in, thus predicting that there will be six-weeks of additional winter.... At least in the Upper Hemisphere!
Candlemas ~ is a traditional Christian festival commemorating the ritual purification of Mary 40 days after the birth of Jesus.
Imbolc 2011 ~ If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, Imbolc is on February 2. If you live below the equator, you're going to celebrate Imbolc on August 1. Unlike solstice and equinox celebrations, these dates do not change from year to year.

Chinese New Year ~ The Year of the Rabbit ~ Celebrated during the second new moon after the Winter Solstice, Chinese New Year is also known as Lunar New Year or Spring Festival.

Bubble-Gum Day ~ everyone who donates 50 cents or more gets to chew gum in school, with proceeds going to charity. The celebration isn’t limited to schools; many libraries, community centers, and even businesses hold bubble gum day events. After all, why should kids have all the fun?

SuperBowl Sunday Super Bowl XLV: The Pittsburgh Steelers Versus The Green Bay Packers. SuperBowl Live Stream expects at least 150,000 million viewers world-wide. Some estimates for viewing go up to a billion people worldwide. SuperBowl Sunday is commonly known as the best day ever for great Commercials!

Saint Valentine’s Day ~ Valentines day celebrates love, especially between couples. Celebrated in many countries by people of varying religions, it was originally a Christian holiday. Today, however, it is celebrated in many countries all over the world by anyone who wishes to celebrate the spirit of love. It is sometimes jokingly, but still lovingly, referred to as “Single’s Awareness day”.

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards held in Hollywood, California have many categories and nominations each year. ABC puts on quite a show and is viewed by over 40,000 people domestic. It is, also viewed via live-stream and other world outlets. A fun fact: 1887: Harvey Wilcox of Kansas started selling off 120 acres he owned in Southern California as a real estate development. His wife, Daeida, named it Hollywood.

Also, I read that the word 'February' comes from the Latin word februare, meaning 'to purify'. The ancient Romans had their annual purification ceremony during this time each year.

GI Joe Day; February 1st ~ In 1974, The first mass-marketed doll for boys was introduced. Hasbro sold G.I. Joe for $2.49. The action figure's name came from the 1945 film "The Story of G.I. Joe," which starred Robert Mitchum and Burgess Meredith.
