1. Daily Deviations
Recently, I announced changes to Daily Deviations in this journal and I'm happy to say that the response has been favorable. To review, we have made the following changes:
a> The "3-month rule" is now the "6-month rule" meaning an artist cannot receive another DD if they have had one in the last 6 months.
b> Daily Deviation selectors are limited to a maximum of one selection per day. This has been put in place to focus on quality vs quantity.
The hard-coding of these new guidelines is now in place (special thanks to $ZombieCoder for that

1) If you could bring one deceased legendary artist back to the current time, who would it be and why them?

This is tricky. There's so many people I would love to meet and just talk
to, artists going right back to Exekias and Phidias, it would be so
incredible to speak to them and gain just a little of their knowledge
about their art and their life times.
There's the cliche artists such as Michelangelo (I turn into a complete raving fan girl over his
drawings and sculptures, but I'm not so mad about his paintings) and Jan
van Eyck.
More modern artists, oddly enough, I wouldn't pick a
photographer. I'd probably say the recently decided Lucian Freud. He was
one of my close friends' grandfather and whenever I saw him is was a
true inspiration to talk to.
TL;DR answer to this is idk but I'm a Classical geek so probably an ancient Greek artist.

It doesn’t matter who you are or even how many years you have been here, we want to see your suggestions!

Daily Deviations UpdateHappy Monday Morning

I started this morning by signing something "Moonbam13" so either this typo means I need more coffee, or this week is going to be BAMTASTIC!
I'm rooting for the latter

I wanted to post a quick update on changes to Daily Deviations. It is important to note that these changes have not been hard-coded so my team is manually following these new guidelines. This means that errors can and likely will occur until the coding is complete, your patience and understanding is appreciated

The following guideline changes are in effect:

The 3-month rule is now the 6-month rule, meaning that it must be at least 6-months since the last time an artist received a daily deviation. (This was an overwhelmingly popular suggestion from the community and I agree, it's a good one!)

Daily deviation selectors may only select one daily deviation per day maximum. This has been put in place to focus on Quality vs Quantity.

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly a year can fly by. I've made it a practice over the years to sit back and reflect on the year, what went well, what didn't and where I'd like to see the new year go. A year can bring a lot of lessons and without reflection it's hard to ensure that you've taken away everything important from it. I apply this personally and to deviantART and it's that time again

PE: Traditional Critique TipsAs part of Project Educate Critique week, the Community Volunteers would like to share more art specific elements to consider whilst giving good critique.
Today we are looking at the Traditional Art gallery, with our Top 10 (or so) Tips provided by the wonderful assistance of ^Lyricanna
I am by no means an expert but I have picked up a few tricks over the past 5 years that I hope will help others.

About anatomy. If someone's anatomy looks off, suggest that they mirror their sketches/WIPs in the future. This is a trick first introduced to me by digital artists. They would horizontally flip their images to check for anatomical errors. You can do this with traditional art as well by holding the reverse side of an image up to a light or by using a lightbox.

Just a short article this week folks - as there is less to share whilst people busy themselves with the delights that is Christmas and the Holiday Season. With Winter drawn completely in, at least for most of us, the temptation to go out and photography (at least for most of us!) gets less and less. So why not stay in and concentrate on snapping those cosy log fires, beautiful baubles and maybe even venture out eventually for those icy snow shots? Share what you take this Christmas - on this journal to be featured next Friday for the New Year.
