Recently, I announced changes to Daily Deviations in this journal and I'm happy to say that the response has been favorable. To review, we have made the following changes:
a> The "3-month rule" is now the "6-month rule" meaning an artist cannot receive another DD if they have had one in the last 6 months.
b> Daily Deviation selectors are limited to a maximum of one selection per day. This has been put in place to focus on quality vs quantity.
The hard-coding of these new guidelines is now in place (special thanks to $ZombieCoder for that

The Beginning of MangaNarrative in art has been seen for centuries in a wide range of different forms. Now I should start off by saying the 'true origins' of manga is disputed. World War II accelerated the world of comics and manga. However we'll take a look at what has been going on before global conflict changed everything. We'll start with the actual name itself, manga, meaning 'whimsical pictures'. So this is the nature of it, satire, doodles, sketches, exaggeration and humour. The first time this term was used to describe a piece of artwork in Japan was given to Hokusai Manga (first published in 1814). So there is the term itself, but going a bit further back is where it's real history becomes debatable.

Manga started around 12-13th century, the Japanese Fujiwara Period. Animal caricatures known seen on picture scrolls are an early form of narrative. They show mischief and fun doodles, and they are actually an early example of Japanese art that is breaking away from their Chinese

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly a year can fly by. I've made it a practice over the years to sit back and reflect on the year, what went well, what didn't and where I'd like to see the new year go. A year can bring a lot of lessons and without reflection it's hard to ensure that you've taken away everything important from it. I apply this personally and to deviantART and it's that time again

Proposed Projects Category ChangesHello again, deviants one and all!
I come to you today as your humble Community Projects volunteer, and I need your help and feedback! We're interested in making some changes to the Community Projects category structure!
Specifically for this round, we're looking at the Projects > Holidays category, and sub-categories!
Why Change it?

First off, this is an important question. A long time ago, when deviantART was just getting used to using the big boy potty, there weren't a lot of categories in Projects. But as deviantART grew, the number of categories grew and grew and grew!
The current structure of Projects > Holidays relies on a year-specific system. So you will have Projects > Holidays > [Year] and then yet more sub-categories for each holiday that year. That results in us having a lot of categories for, say, Christmas, or New Years. One for every y

Two editions of What Digital Camera appeared today and I'm pretty glad they did because I flicked through and immediately landed on a link for a free online Photography magazine. You can open it up yourself Right Here and I haven't tested but I believe it works in all countries. The reason I'm sharing it is because they have a nifty forum where you can share your own photography with the chance of them picking it to publish either in the online magazine or the 'real' shop versions. What have you got to lose right?

Basking in the glory of finally getting recognised for your hard efforts and photographic skill is pretty awesome and at the start of this week I took the opportunity to enjoy *Fuzzypiggy's after he got published in a UK Photography Magazine. It's really nice when something like that happens and the knowledge that across the country - and because of deviantART and other networks - across the world, people are looking at your work. And if you're me, smiling! I once stumbled across *lauren-rabbit's work in Black and White Photography Magazine and was truly proud that somebody I had found here on deviantART was here in my mag! So have you been published? Has your work received any recognition that makes you proud? What are your tips to getting out there and having your work showcased?

Art History: Discovering Dali

Salvador Dali was born in Spain in 1904 and has been best known and recognised throughout the years for his surrealist, ambiguous works. Dali is responsible for inspiring a plethora of artists to create, combine and step outside of their comfort zones. Many know him for his paintings, but actually like many modern artists today, Dali traversed the fields of the artistic world to pick up talents in Writing, Photography, Sculpture and Film.

Dali was not famous for his methods. That's one of the mistakes that people make when tracing his history or seeking him out for inspiration. Dali's methods were much the same as anybody else's. However his concepts trumped them all and made him what he is remembered for today. He achieved his effects through a mastery of perspective

For quite some time now, the Community Relations team has been writing articles called Did You Know?. The articles focus on lesser-known facets of the deviantART website, and aim to educate the community on those specific parts of the website.

To help you find the information you are looking for, we have composed an overview that lists all previous Did You Know? articles and their topics. With every new article we release, we will update the overview, to ensure it remains up-to-date.

You know, these are so informative that it would be great for them to be searchable in the Help & FAQ section. Just a thought. The FAQ is helpful and searchable, why not the Did You Know? articles which do more to help elaborate on the community and the site as a whole? (and do a heck of a great job answering common questions by community members!)
