Cancer, we're coming to get you! Just bumping this journal because it means a lot to me!Race for Life 2013Hello all! It's that time of year again when I am asking for your help in a cause that is close to my heart. Race for life is a 5K charity run raising money for Cancer Research UK. Cancer Research do life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. This is my 5th year in a row doing Race for Life, and every year it becomes more and more important to me. There are far too many people suffering with cancer; too many families, friends and individuals and the work Cancer Research do is so important to help find a cure. This year, the lovely Kaylee (~CurvyLemon) and my sister Rachel (~racheljj) are joining me in the race- and I encourage any woman in the UK to sign up too! This is me last year, 28 weeks pregnant and dressed up as superwoman because I surpassed my target. If I raise more that my target of
This tiny insignificant thing mildly displeases meI love browsing the Suggestions forum but am seriously blown away by how many times people post threads suggesting/requesting/demanding that dA alter the way the site works in order that they never have to see anything that isn't to their specific personal taste.I'm not talking about the Mature Content filter or submissions with violate dA's policies here. I mean people expecting the entire site to change so that they don't ever encounter a thumbnail-sized image of a cat or My Little Pony or [insert other random object or concept here] while looking at the front page in Newest or Popular modes.I find myself typing pretty much the same thing to these people on a regular basis, so thought it would be easier to simply make a journal about it that I can link to. So here it is.Ok, first of all, context. dA is a huge, global website for artists and art appreciators of all ages with all sorts of tastes in what they create and look at. The fron
Gallery Makeover ProjectHello everyone Recently my team and I worked tirelessly on a project to help improve the gallery descriptions and thumbnail examples. While that project was indeed tedious with almost 4,000 categories in our system, it was also educational. What I learned from sorting through thousands and thousands of categories was that we have a lot of redundancy and a lot of categories that seem to have been created on a whim that are now simply homes for junk.Over the years, the desire to appease niche communities and people who just wanted a specific area has led to some categories that go up to 4 levels deep, and it's really no wonder it's so confusing for people to figure out where to submit their artwork. The conclusion I've come to is simplicity. While I'm not about to rip apart everything and make 6 stand alone categories, I do believe that there is a lot we can do to simplify the category tree. That includes some of the following:1. Merging categories that ma

Gallery Clean-up ProjectThe Gallery Clean-up Project will focus on literally cleaning up the category tree in several ways. This first part of this project, is all behind the scenes. Over the years there have been categories that have been "removed", merged, or changed and there are back-end changes that need to be done to fully remove them from the tree. This part will not affect you, and if everything goes properly, you won't even notice it The second part of this will be ensuring that the categories are all accepting the correct file-types. If there is a file-type that isn't being allowed in a particular category or

Happy Holidays and Merry New Year As the old year begins to fade into the sunset, it is customary to reflect on the passing year and make plans for the upcoming one. Some do this in the form of resolutions, some people make action plans, some people just swing into the new year the same way they swung out of the old one Whatever way you intend to welcome in 2013, I hope you're surrounded by love and that you do it safely!I've been reflecting on the year and like many, with some focus on the unimaginable events of the last few weeks. Specifically, the shooting in Newtown. I know that it's "human nature" to want to find
Everyday we're CV'ingAs a Community Volunteer - I do as much or as little within the community that I feel comfortable doing. We're not pressured to do this and that, we don't even have to give a Daily Deviation every day, we choose how we promote our selected galleries/chats and forums and we're not fixed to any specific rule on how much or how little we do. But I do believe that it's important to share with you just what the community volunteers do and why we do it. More importantly it's so easy to get lost on this site full of many people - and miss out on the awesome that's going on. So I'm going to share with you exactly what the latest awesome is... Project Educate Almost every week since October last year the Community Volunteers have been working hard both independently and as part of small teams to bring You Project Educate.Project Educate is about bringing forward art forms whether they are popular or overlooked and giving

New Submission Process and Thumbnail ExamplesIn my opinion, one of the greatest advantages to the New Submission Process, are the thumbnail examples and descriptions that appear when you're selecting a category. It's no secret that we have misplaced deviations throughout the galleries and it's probably the most complained about topic I deal with on a daily basis. My team and I have been working hard to improve the descriptions and thumbnail examples for all of the galleries, and I'm happy

The CR Stamp Project Stamps are a great way to show your support for a project, a person or a group of people, spread awareness for a cause or promote a contest. It is also valid to do them just for fun, with just a funny image and/or message.Since their introduction to the deviantArt galleries, millions of stamps have been created with a great variety of messages, both silly and serious, and you can see them all over the place, from journals to profile widgets. The Community Relations department exists to encourage, facilitate and develop the relationship with our deviantART community. Our goal is to nurture our community by encouraging, stimulating artists to create, collaborate, and participate in a friendly, safe, and supportive artistic environment. It's now time t
