Project Educate Continues! Project Educate Continues!!!
%projecteducate is a group and all updates from individuals during their weeks listed below will be posted over there! So be sure to join or watch for the full updates! If you want to partake in Community Week by writing an article then just note the group with your ideas!
How it Works
%projecteducate started with purely CV run weeks. Those were weeks focusing on a specific art form brought to you by your lovely Community Volunteers. As well as these epic seven days of awesome, we've now introduced two more themes which run on a bi-monthly basis. Those are Community Weeks, which include articles from members of the dA community - and Artist Toolbox Weeks which include a mixture of articles focusing purely on the 'tools' of the trade. If you're interested in either please note %projecteducate!

What IS Vexel Art Anyway? So, hello then I am the newly appointed Community Volunteer for the Vexel gallery, taking over from the ever-wonderful `jussta! I am here to provide you with support and entertainment, and to be a bridge between you and the deviantART $taff
You will be excited to know that I already have a contest in the planning for next year, but in the mean time while I find my feet in the volunteer world, I can tell you that %vexelove has both a contest and a collab you can take part in at the moment, and you can find the details here: http://fav.me/d5jxxjz
And, my dear vexel artists, take a look at #TheVexelGroup, your vexel community hub of info and goings-on, also with a gallery you can submit to
So... What IS Vexel Art anyway?
I always thought the easiest way to describe it was by calling it digital cut paper. When you make a traditional cut paper piece, you are using shapes of paper all built up to create an image - vexel is the same so

Gallery Makeover ProjectHello everyone
Recently my team and I worked tirelessly on a project to help improve the gallery descriptions and thumbnail examples. While that project was indeed tedious with almost 4,000 categories in our system, it was also educational. What I learned from sorting through thousands and thousands of categories was that we have a lot of redundancy and a lot of categories that seem to have been created on a whim that are now simply homes for junk.
Over the years, the desire to appease niche communities and people who just wanted a specific area has led to some categories that go up to 4 levels deep, and it's really no wonder it's so confusing for people to figure out where to submit their artwork.
The conclusion I've come to is simplicity. While I'm not about to rip apart everything and make 6 stand alone categories, I do believe that there is a lot we can do to simplify the category tree. That includes some of the following:
1. Merging categories that ma

Up and Coming IIThere is an abundance of talent here on deviantART, and I love browsing our fashion photography galleries for emerging artists, at the forefront of the next wave of new talent.
There are always people who catch my eye, and I collect their names and keep an eye on them, because watching people make the most of their talent and fulfill their potential is a wonderful experience. I'm going to share some of the fresh talent I'm currently admiring and amazed by, so that when they're out shooting big campaigns and stories across the world, we can say I told you they were special!"
So have a look at these wonderful artists, this feature is the first in the series, check out the previous one here.
Gareth is part of a fresh wave of talent hailing from Wales but working a lot in London. Unafraid to experiment with colour, Gareth's conceptual-meets-fashion photography really makes an impact on the viewer. Back To The Stre
Traditional Tuesdays #41Hi, and welcome to the 41st edition of Traditional Tuesdays. This week, like all of the other weeks, I'll be featuring fifteen works of art from the Traditional Gallery. Any more than that might and you might loss interest or it could cause your monitor to fail in an explosion of awesomeness. I would feel guilty if that were to happen, so I'm keeping it at fifteen! The Traditional gallery is a vast storeroom of work that covers many mediums and genres. I've tried to show a diverse array of artwork, but I don't have room for them all. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
**WARNING:Viewing these works of art may cause giddiness, elevated heart rates, and
happiness in the pants(which could lead to blindness)! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!**
There's something new in town...For a long while now, I've been itching to create a group that encompasses the whole of the People & Portraits Photography Gallery. After chatting it through with ^3wyl today, we decided to launch one - and so ~PeopleAndPortraits was born! It's for every single sub-gallery of People and Portraits Photography. Every single one. You'll find a folder for every one of them and you'll find that you can submit not one but TWO works a week to each one. What else are we giving you...well...
The chance to show case your work by having it submitted to the group
A 'photographer' of the week each week
People and Portraits Exposed - a weekly series of articles
Articles from other community volunteers who handle People and Portrait Galleries
Feedback - we would LOVE to give you feedback!
A contest ---- our contest is launching next week and we're ready for you! Standby to see what it's all about.
Not So Traditional Tuesdays #3I'm staying with my plan to will keep the features fresh for me(and you) and maybe open a few eyes to all the different kinds of artwork that is available while browsing the deviantArt galleries. The things that make one piece of art great applies, for the most part, to other genres. A painter can learn how light and shadow fall from photography, photo-manipulators can learn about composition from a great Manga drawing, and literature can give you the inspiration to try something new or take your work to the next step. You may never try all art forms you see! You can however take what you learn from them and incorporate that into your own work. It could be the difference between stagnating and that breakthrough every artist wants to find!
It's not late this time!
Mainly because I wasn't asleep!

I Belong To You I hate rain. Not really, I love it. Just not when the most beautiful, perfect, wonderful, perfect, comfortable, waterproof, perfect coat in existence has been savagely butchered by my so-called friend’s Dalmatian. Every slap of rain on my naked arms is a stinging reminder of the irreparable hole in my wardrobe.
Some people might try to fill the void with lesser coats but I can’t bring myself to betray Valentino, even after her death. Instead my slippery arms grapple with each other in wet shock as I stumble to the op shop, clinging to one last thread of hope. I know in my deadened heart that I’ll never have another coat like her. Yet here I am, blundering through the elements in my vain search for the acceptance and warmth I found wrapped in Valentino’s woollen sleeves.
Thud. My body slams into the door, making the ‘open’ sign quiver and the bells tinkle in offense. I fight for entry, the door’s assault doubled by the stale funk of

^Nyx-Valentine arrived in our community and started whipping everyone into a frenzy with her relentless desire to bring the Artistic Nude and Fetish galleries to the fore. 9 years later, and it's safe to say that Nyx is not only a leader as a photographer in these galleries, but she has also established herself as a much saught after model. ^...
